Handing over the keys!

Our new tenants are moving in and we couldn't be happier to be done with painting, sanding, and all else that is home renovating.  We have had our fill for at least a dog year or two.
We hung this plaque on the wall to thank our family for helping us.
We couldn't have done it without you guys!
We hope our new tenants love Morningside and take good care of it this next year!

Officially handing over the keys to our first tenant!

Thanks for following us along on this journey.  We hope you've had fun!  We are putting down the nail and hammer and closing the laptop for now!

Writing can be exhausting!

We think it is time for a nice long nap.

Love,
Emma and Rupert

P.S. If you have any questions about the projects we have completed, please write a comment and we would be glad to help!

Kitchen Reveal

I would say the kitchen was the most challenging and time-consuming part of the home because it is the most important and has so many variables!  Here is a rundown of all we did in the kitchen.

1.       Painted kitchen cabinets and walls. See more here: http://bit.ly/12u8yOz
2.       Tiled the floor

We chose brown/gray12 X 12 tiles with gray grout.
3.       Replaced the countertops: laminate counter-tops (color: butterrum  granite)
Dad removing the countertops
4.       Replaced the backsplash http://low.es/18MLgrT
The hideous green and white laminate backsplash had to go!
5.       Installed a new sink (purchased at a yard sale for $10)
6.       Installed a new glass top stove (purchased via http://www.recycler.com/iwanta for $150)
7.       Installed a new fridge (purchased used for $300)

So without further adieu, here are the before and after shots!

Living Room and Hallway Reveal!

The living area really needed to be brought to life and we certainly have done that with the new tile, refinished hardwoods, and a fresh coat of paint.  The ugly brown paneling and trim is no more!  It is amazing how much larger the room looks and feels now.

Below is a list of things we tackled in the living room/hallway:

  1.          Removed Wallpaper
  2.          New paint (walls and trim)
  3.          Sanding floors/tiled floors
  4.          Seal floors

I'd say it looks pretty good!

Bedroom Reveal!

Next up are the bedrooms! The work done in the bedrooms was fairly basic but nonetheless time consuming.  Here is a rundown of what we accomplished:

  • Removed Wallpaper
  • New paint
  • Sanding floors
  • Seal floors with 3 coats of of polyurethane

Hopefully the new tenants will enjoy their beautiful new rooms!

Curbside Reveal!

It is hard to believe, but we are wrapping up the Morningside flip and are almost ready to hand over the keys to our first tenants!  For the next few posts, I will walk through our progress room by room and share every change that has been made so hopefully you can incorporate the things you like into your next project.

First up is the outside.  While the previous owner did a pretty good job keeping the yard up, the house just needed a bit of life pumped back into it. I believe curb appeal is so important and while we aren't putting the house on the market yet, a face-lift was needed ASAP.

With a few simple changes, I think we were able to make Morningside look a lot more welcoming and happy!

Bye bye blue!

We chose a rich red for the door and are happy with how it turned out!

This one small can covered the entire door!
